Auction Highlight

Bonhams, Chester, Wednesday 16th June

Attracting a pre-sale estimate of £6,000–8,000, Geoff Hurst's spare shirt from the 1966 World Cup final, in which he scored three of the four goals in England's 4-2 win over West Germany, is to be included in sale of Sporting Memorabilia.

Hurst, who was only five months and eight games into his international career, made World Cup history as the only player to have scored a hat-trick in a World Cup final.

Another important lot is a pair of Stanley Matthews boots (estimate £6,000–8,000) that he wore in a testimonial match played in his honour on April 28, 1965 at Stoke’s Victoria ground in front of 35,000 spectators. He had played his final game in February of the same year. The boots, which come with a note from Matthews stating "Yes, my old soccer boots", were given to one of the players at the end of the game.

Other highlights include a 1957-58 Italian league champion's medal awarded to John Charles shortly after his transfer to Italian club Juventus F.C. (estimate £8,000–10,000); a 1951 FA Cup final winner's medal presented to Newcastle's Jack Fairbrother (£5,000–7,000); and a 1955 FA Cup final winner's medal awarded to Newcastle Captain Jimmy Scoular (estimate £5,000–7,000), who had previously won First Division winner's medals with Portsmouth in 1948/9 and 1949/50.

Bonhams, Knightsbridge, Wednesday 23rd June

A sale of entertainment memorabilia including the 'Spitting Image' puppets of former Prime Minister John Major and his wife Norma.

Estimated at £3,000-3,500 these puppets appeared in the British satirical puppet show during the Tory Prime Ministers final term of office. The puppet is made entirely in shades of grey – including his skin – reflecting the writers' impression of his dull character. In the show he was shown enjoying meals of peas in silence with his wife Norma and being mocked by the Downing Street cat.

Bonhams has previously sold Spitting Image puppets of Gordon Brown (£4,800, June 2007), Margaret Thatcher (£5,040, June 2007) and Tony and Cherie Blair (£12,600, January 2008).
